New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) is searching for a creative and dynamic Director with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public libraries, to manage the Moncton Public Library. The library is the resource centre for the Albert-Westmorland-Kent Library Region. In addition to their role as public libraries, resource centres offer support services such as reference, children's, young adult, and adult services to other libraries in the region.

DUTIES: Reporting to the Regional Director, the Director is responsible for the provision of quality library service to the community and the surrounding area. He or she is responsible for managing the library, which has 13.8 positions, in accordance with provincial guidelines. As Director of the regional resource centre, he/she is a member of the regional management team and is a key support to the Regional Director in developing service in the region; in recommending and implementing regional and provincial programs, priorities, policies and guidelines; in taking part in regional and provincial committees; in leading special projects; and in using his or her expertise to mentor and guide staff of the library region via the development of training and other activities as needed. The Director plays a lead role in overseeing the development of adult, children's and reference services for the library and for the region.

Duties will include overseeing the recruitment, training, supervision, scheduling and evaluation of staff, as well as students, volunteers and employment program personnel; promoting the library and its services; participating in collections development for the library and the region; serving as secretary to the library board; managing the library board budget provided by the municipality including the analysis of financial needs and the presentation of requests for funding; working in conjunction with the board and the municipality to maintain the library facility; maintaining positive relations with the community and with the staff of the library region; developing partnerships; and managing grants.

The Director oversees all library operations and as part of the library team will participate as needed in operational activities such as: providing reference service; loan service; program planning, etc.

This position requires evening and weekend work. Some travel will be required and the successful candidate must possess a valid driver's license. Maintaining the library collections will involve some lifting.

QUALIFICATIONS: We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills. A Masters degree in Library and/or Information Studies from an ALA accredited school and at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in management and supervision are required. Knowledge of strategic planning, of library management and development, of budget forecasting and control, of library automation, of electronic reference tools, of the principles of collection development, of marketing, and of public and community relations are essential. Experience with e-mail, the Internet and Ms-Word are necessary. Written and spoken competence in English and in French is essential.

The successful candidate will possess excellent management, leadership, communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills. A demonstrated sense of organization as well as a strong aptitude for problem solving, analysis and team work is necessary.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick (SBPNB) est à la recherche d'une personne énergique, créative et enthousiaste à l'égard de la mission des bibliothèques publiques pour gérer la Bibliothèque publique de Moncton. La bibliothèque est le centre de ressources pour la Région de bibliothèques Albert-Westmorland-Kent. En plus d'être une bibliothèque publique, les centres de ressources offrent des services de soutien aux autres bibliothèques de la région dans les domaines des services de référence ainsi que des services aux enfants, aux adolescent(e)s et aux adultes.

FONCTIONS : Relevant du directeur régional, le directeur ou la directrice doit assurer la prestation d'un service de bibliothèque de qualité à la communauté et les environs. Il ou elle doit gérer la bibliothèque qui compte 13,8 postes conformément aux lignes directrices provinciales. À titre de directeur ou directrice d'un centre de ressources, il/elle appuie le directeur régional en participant au développement des services dans la région; en recommandant et en mettant en oeuvre des programmes, priorités, politiques et lignes directrices régionales et provinciales; en prenant part à des comités régionaux et provinciaux; en menant des projets spéciaux; et en se servant de son expertise pour offrir du mentorat et des conseils au personnel de la région par l'entremise d'activités de formation professionnelle ou autres. Le directeur ou la directrice joue un rôle de premier plan dans la supervision du développement des services de référence ainsi que des services offerts aux enfants et aux adultes dans la bibliothèque et dans la région.

Les fonctions consistent, entre autres, à diriger le recrutement, la formation, la supervision, l'évaluation et la planification des horaires de travail du personnel ainsi que des étudiant(e)s, des bénévoles et des employé(e)s de projet; à promouvoir la bibliothèque et ses services; à participer au développement des collections dans la bibliothèque et la région; à agir à titre de secrétaire de la commission de la bibliothèque; à gérer le budget de la commission fourni par la municipalité incluant l'analyse des besoins financiers et la présentation des demandes de financement; à travailler de pair avec la commission et la municipalité afin d'assurer l'entretien de la bibliothèque; à entretenir des relations positives avec la communauté et le personnel des bibliothèques de la région; à développer des partenariats; et à gérer des subventions.

Le directeur ou la directrice supervise toutes les activités de la bibliothèque et, en tant que membre de l'équipe des services, il ou elle participe, selon les besoins, aux activités opérationnelles telles que la référence, le service de prêt, la planification de la programmation, etc.

Ce poste comprend des heures de travail en soirée et la fin de semaine. La personne choisie pourrait être appelée à se déplacer et doit posséder un permis de conduire valide. Le travail en bibliothèque exige de soulever du matériel à l'occasion.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : La personne recherchée fait preuve de leadership et possède un excellent sens de l'organisation, de même que des aptitudes pour la résolution de problèmes et l'analyse. Elle possède une maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et/ou en sciences de l'information d'une école accréditée par l'ALA ainsi qu'au moins quatre (4) années d'expérience comprenant des responsabilités croissantes en gestion et en supervision. La connaissance de la planification stratégique; de la gestion et du développement d'une bibliothèque; de la planification et du contrôle budgétaire; de l'automatisation des bibliothèques; des ressources électroniques; des principes de développement de collection; du marketing; ainsi que des relations publiques et communautaires est essentielle. Elle doit aussi avoir une expérience pratique du courriel, de l'Internet et de Ms-Word. La connaissance du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est essentielle.

La personne choisie saura faire preuve de leadership et possèdera d'excellentes aptitudes pour la gestion, la supervision, les communications et les relations interpersonnelles. Elle aura aussi un bon sens de l'organisation et de très bonnes habiletés pour l'analyse, la résolution de problèmes et le travail d'équipe.
