AUDIO CONFERENCE: SUCCESSION PLANNING... ISN'T

Succession Planning... Isn't, an audio conference from The Education Institute: The learning programs of the APLA-BCLA-LAA-NSLA-OLA-SLA Partnership will be hosted at the Nova Scotia Provincial Library on May 31st.  The presenter will be Ken Haycock, Senior Partner, Ken Haycock and Associates, Vancouver.

There is much talk about succession planning and the impending crisis but no one seems to be taking it very seriously. Is succession planning really just "replacement planning" or an opportunity to review and renew? If succession planning was treated like strategic succession management, there would be clear criteria for successful programs and accountability measures for senior management and trustees.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The program will appeal to anyone concerned about recruiting and placing professional staff and managers -directors, trustees, HR managers, union representatives.

THE BENEFITS
Study after study suggest that "succession planning" is a key area of concern for libraries and their directors. These same studies suggest, however, that few libraries have any plan in place to address this potential problem. Participants will learn the elements of successful succession management, which is not simply replacement planning.

A Ken Haycock and Associates program for the Education Institute.

Presenter:
Ken Haycock holds graduate degrees in Business Administration, Education, Leadership and Library and Information Studies. At the University of British Columbia, Dr. Haycock was director of the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies, teaching and conducting research in management and leadership. The author of more than a hundred articles and books, he has received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal for contributions to Canadian society. He is a past president of the Canadian Library Association and an elected member of the Executive Board of the American Library Association. Ken has also been a public library trustee with the Guelph and West Vancouver Library Boards, an elected school board trustee, and chair of the West Vancouver School Board. He was an elected councillor in West Vancouver.  Dr. Haycock's consulting practice focuses on executive search, strategic planning and management reviews. He has conducted a number of landmark sessions on repositioning public library boards in community development.

Format: A one hour audio conference
This session is free and registration is on a first come first serve basis.
