Join us at the Nova Scotia Provincial Library on April 26th to learn about the "The Magic of Storytelling" from instructor Sya Van Geest, an experienced educator, teacher-librarian, curriculum consultant and author. Key topics to be explored in this one hour audio conference from The Education Institute: The learning programs of the APLA-BCLA-LAA-NSLA-OLA-SLA Partnership are the storytelling process from the preparation stage to the presentation; skill sets in storytelling; sources for storytelling; and the teaching of higher level thinking skills and values using storytelling.
HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT
- Learn to understand and apply the skills involved in the storymaking and storytelling process.
- Analyze the characteristics and qualities of stories that suggest and promote storymaking and storytelling.
- Identify and link specific curriculum learning expectations that suggest storytelling and storymaking as an effective teaching learning strategy.
- Understand how to transfer the blueprint of the workshop for personal audiences and purpose using the presentation strategies and instruction materials (e.g., computer slides, props, 'pooksack', role-playing, sample picture books, Hebrew Bible stories, selected multicultural bibliography).
- Receive course material, Reference List of stories to shape for the ear, and a storytelling rubric.
- Be invited to participate in a chat group focused on ongoing sharing and discussion as you use the materials in your work.
