Bringing Resources to the Public:
Steps in Planning and Implementing an Online Project**
Announcing a workshop in Preparing Web-Based Distribution of Materials
Where: Dalhousie University
When: April 22-23, 2005 (Friday and Saturday)
Description: Advances in digital technologies have matured to the point
where many libraries, archives, museums, educational institutions and
community-based organizations are making information and materials
available online for public use. We would like to share the excitement
and power of these technologies with the digital collections community
through the presentation of a two-day workshop. The workshop will
demonstrate how to go about planning and implementing an online project.
The format will include lectures, a "sample project" created just for
this workshop, and significant hands-on sessions. Topics to be covered
include analysis and design of projects and websites, an overview of
metadata standards in common use, and the use of web authoring software,
audio and video components (including capture and preparation), literary
text markup, scanning and preparation of images and text (including
OCR), database integration, and geographic information systems.
Cost: free of charge; attendees must cover their own travel,
accommodation, and other expenses.
How to register: Telephone (902) 755-6031 between 8 am and 4:30 PM,
Monday - Friday. Registration is on a first serve basis, although a few
seats have been reserved for members of "grassroots" community groups.
You may only register yourself; no group reservations please.
