JOB SUMMARY: The School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) is one of
four schools in the Faculty of Management. The other schools are Business
Administration, Public Administration, and Resource and Environmental
Studies. This grouping adds strength to the Masters of Library and
Information Studies (MLIS) programme through opportunities for
inter-disciplinarity in course-work, service, and research experience. The
philosophy of SLIS is centred on a broad definition of the information
professions and the Schools programme fosters flexible and adaptable
graduates who are employed around the world. SLIS is seeking a
service-oriented, energetic information professional to coordinate services
to applicants, students and alumni relating to the Schools ALA-accredited
MLIS programme and to continuing education offerings. Specifically, the
MLIS Programme Coordinator will coordinate the admissions and scholarship
processes, organize practicums and placement activities, participate in
strategic planning, liaise with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, oversee
the Schools website, and market MLIS and joint programs in order to fulfill
the Schools recruitment strategy. This position reports to the Director,
School of Library and Information Studies.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: MLIS from an ALA-accredited programme (or
equivalent degree), complemented by approximately five years or more
professional experience in any information setting. Experience in a
Canadian environment is highly desirable, in order to facilitate networking
for placement purposes. A passion for the profession, superior
interpersonal skills, a strong service ethic and team orientation,
demonstrated service in library associations, formal or informal mentoring
experience, and a high comfort level with a wide range of software, are
also required.
