MTS LEVEL 6 (LEAD TECHNICIAN) ADMINISTRATIVE AREA
TERM REPLACEMENT -- COMPETITION #74E04
The University of Prince Edward Island, Robertson Library is
seeking applications for an Administrative Lead Technician for a six-
month term. The successful candidate has supervisory, library
research, and administrative responsibilities – in addition to
Information Desk duties. This position currently reports to the
University Librarian, and has the following responsibilities:
coordinatesand organizes the compilation of Library statistics
monthly and yearly; acts as a research assistant in collecting and
synthesizing data on academic libraries, services, and related
issues, as requested by the University Librarian; supervises two
staff members, reviews and coordinates all staff leaves in
collaboration with the (two) other Library lead technicians; works
with the other Lead technicians and the Librarians to ensure that
all support staff are adequately trained for their respective
positions; has overall responsibility of the hiring of student
assistants in the Library; co-ordinates student assistant duties
throughout the Library areas; organizes meetings when/where
appropriate with library staff and campus personnel to implement
or improve library system services; provides reference assistance
to Library patrons approximately 6-8 hours per week; participates
in the Library Advisory Group (LAG); sits on other Library
committees, as needed/requested, actively and positively
contributes to the overall Library work environment; undertakes
assigned projects and duties as requested by the University
Librarian
These responsibilities, or priorities of these responsibilities, may
shift or alter due to changing Library needs or direction.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Library Technician diploma or an
undergraduate degree with a minimum of three years experience
working in an automated academic library environment.
Experience working with and compiling statistics, ability to work
within a team environment and handle divergent perspectives, and
flexible, curious, and creative focus. Candidates must also have
excellent verbal and written communication and organizational
skills. Knowledge of and experience with SPSS and HTML and
experience with, or aptitude for, research methodology
supervisory experience would be a definite asset.
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week
TERM: Six Month Term, Starting February 2005
SALARY: $37,751 per annum as per CUPE 1870
(Under Negotiations) pro-rated to term
