Hi everyone,

It may not come as news to some, but the recent Federal Budget has
terminated LibraryNet and Canada's Digital Collections and a number of other
related programs. See

In part it reads:
"...certain SchoolNet initiatives will be discontinued. These programs are:
GrassRoots, SkillNet, Canada's Digital Collections, Innovation and
Entrepreneurship Camps, Canadašs Information Technology Week, and
LibraryNet..."

So much for the great deal of work and commitment that countless
community-based groups and professional organizations (including many
librarians) had put into some of these initiatives over the past ten years.
Was there any evaluation by the Federal Government on these programs before
they were gutted?

Where has the country's commitment gone to be the most highly plugged-in and
digital oriented nation in the world?
