On behalf of the conference committee for APLA 2005, I am pleased to
make a call for session proposals.  The theme for the conference is "Our
Libraries, Our Communities."

At this conference, we hope to focus on our various library communities,
both internal and external. The conference will allow the library
community to think about what the community expects of libraries, what
services we offer to meet those expectations and how we prepare
ourselves to make sure that we have the expertise to best serve our
communities. The conference planning team invites individuals and groups
from a wide variety of perspectives and library types to propose and
develop sessions around this theme.

The key note speaker for the conference is Stephen Kimber. Mr. Kimber is
an award winning writer, a journalist and the Director of the School of
Journalism at University of King's  College.  Kimber is a strong voice
in the realm of freedom of speech, has written articles challenging
media ownership monopolies and the stifling of differing opinions.  In
2003 he won both the Dartmouth Book Award for Non-Fiction and the Evelyn
Ricbardson Award for Non-fiction for his story about Halifax's infamous
VE day riots "Sailors, Slackers and Blind Pigs").

APLA 2005 will be held Thursday May 26 to Sunday May 29, 2005 at the
Westin Nova Scotia Hotel in downtown Halifax.
