Hi all,
I've observed for some time now that there is very little general public
oriented writing being sourced to professional librarians in the Atlantic
Region (or Canada for that matter) in our local/regional/national papers,
presses, journals, etc. Why is this? May be I'm just not reading the right
papers:)
As a profession, Librarians often work in milieus where there is a wealth of
information and knowledge, reflecting an incredible range of professional
and personal experiences that encompass both the informative and curious, as
well as that of the odd and the outrageous (at least for some) :)
So where are the personal stories, reviews, professional reflections, and
commentaries that librarians can offer for the general public's
consideration? For example, what is the experience of being a librarian
(public, academic, private/corporate, etc.) in Canada?
What I've noticed is that librarians tend to write to themselves as a
'profession' a lot ( re. newsletters, etc.). While important, this seems to
me to be rather insular at times. Are librarians just too busy to write for
a general audience, not enough time, tired, "it's not in the job
description,' etc.?
This brings me to the reference below, I thought this might be of use to
those who have on-going writer aspirations:)
Tale care,
Leo
