The Dalhousie SLIS Professional Partnering Program is about to enter
its third year. The Program matches SLIS students with professional
librarians. It is a very unstructured program and each pair works out
their own activities. In the previous years, joint activities have
included meeting for coffee and sharing ideas about careers and course
selection, job shadowing, attending meetings together, tours of
libraries, and attending library events and workshops together.
The number of SLIS students interested in participating in the program
more than doubled last year, which I think is an indication of how
valuable they see this type of connection with the professional

always useful to keep in touch with what new librarians are thinking
learning, and to see the attitudes and interests they will be bringing
to the workplace.
