OLA Audio Conference: Selecting Graphic Novels for Children and Young
Adults : A Concerned Fanboy Speaks Up with Douglas Davey, Children's and
Youth Advocate for the Halton Hills Public Library.
Graphic Novels have achieved remarkable prominence in the past decade,
moving from the fringes of North American culture to the heart of the
mainstream. As graphic novels gain popularity, many librarians are
struggling with the issues involved in collecting them. This
teleconference will help librarians increase their understanding of
graphic novels, select appropriate materials, and maximize their
collection development dollars.
Key topics to be covered are a brief history of graphic novels and
their place in libraries, issues in
developing collections for younger readers and teens and recommended
titles and series. The session will be of particular interest to
children's librarians, young adult librarians, school librarians or
anyone interested in the Graphic Novel phenomena.
Session details:
Time: Wednesday, September 29th, 4:00 - 5:00 p.m
