Marking a new stage in the growing prestige of Cuba's innovative free library
movement, the mayor of Paris, Bertrand DelanoŽ, has written a letter
committing his city's support for the independent libraries of Havana.
This action by Paris follows closely on the city of Strasbourg, which has
just "twinned" its municipal libraries with the independent libraries of Pinar
del RŪo Province in the western part of the island.

In another demonstration of growing worldwide solidarity and support, Pax
Christi-Holland has formed a coalition with other human rights groups to
distribute books to European tourists traveling to Cuba. Tourists in France, Italy,
Holland and Spain are being asked to deliver the books to Cuba's independent
librarians upon their arrival on the island. Among the books being given to
tourists are works by Orwell, Gandhi and Mario Vargas Llosa. Details on this
