Register Now for “Charting the Course: Weathering Information Management Storms”

Greetings,

The Halifax Chapter of ARMA International, the leading organization in the
field of records/information management, is holding its 19th Annual Spring
Seminar on Monday, April 5, 2004, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Westin Nova
Scotian Hotel in Halifax. The theme of this seminar is “Charting the Course:
Weathering Information Management Storms.”

This seminar provides solutions to two of the most difficult issues facing
information managers in a variety of settings, including libraries, records
centres, corporations, governments and archives:
1. The often stormy relations between the information management and
information technology departments, and how greater understanding of IT
terminology and the psychology of the IT profession can assist in improved
communication between the two groups. The presenter is Rick Stirling , Systems
Marketing Manager of Central Business Equipment Systems Ltd, and President of
Stirling Consulting Limited. Rick is well known as a presenter in ARMA
International circles, and is presently the Region Manager of the Canadian
Region of ARMA International. Rick is well rounded in most systems areas, such
as communications, hardware, software and systems integration with a specialty
in the implementation of Records/Document Management applications. This
presentation will clarify many perplexing issues concerning IT.

2. The protection of essential records, and planning for business continuity
in the event of disaster. This problem has become urgent with the advent of
extreme weather in Nova Scotia. It appears that hurricane Juan and “white
Juan” may be part of a new weather trend to affect the Halifax Region, as well
as other parts of mainland Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. All
information managers, regardless of the setting (library, records centre,
corporation, government, or archives) manage records that are essential to the
continued operation of the enterprise. Our presenter, Shawn Clarke, Acting
Regional Director, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada, has a lot
of experience in the areas of Emergency Planning, Exercise Design, Emergency
Public Information Management, and Emergency Operations Centre Management. He
has a lot of practical experience handling disasters including hurricane Juan
and “white Juan,” along with many others. As well, Shawn Clarke has been guest
speaker/lecturer and facilitator at the Canadian Emergency Preparedness
College, training venues sponsored by the Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince
Edward Island Emergency Measures Organizations and the Atlantic Fire Chiefs
Association. You will learn how to develop and implement an essentials records
program, and an infrastructure protection policy for business continuity.
Brainstorm and solve real case studies!
