In response to popular demand, the School of Library and Information Studies
is pleased to offer a half-day workshop on Media Relations for LIS.
Come and join colleagues for this timely workshop -- topics included are: why
the media is important to your organization; building a media network;
determining what's "news"; effective "messaging"; writing media releases; and
communicating with the media in a crisis.

Fee: $50 including taxes (reduction for subsequent participants from the same
institution); $10 for students; $5 for SLIS students
Facilitator:
Charles Crosby, Media Relations Manager, Dalhousie University
Prior to coming to Dalhousie, Charles was co-owner of Pavonis, Your Marketing
Resource Centre for nine years. He has also been Director of Communications
for Neptune Theatre, Director of Public Relations for the Atlantic Theatre
Festival and was a regular contributor to Business Voice Magazine. He has
led workshops on public relations and marketing for numerous groups around
Nova Scotia.
Presenters:
Don Butcher, Executive Director, Canadian Library Association
Before becoming Executive Director of the Canadian Library Association in
2002, Don was a journalist. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree, an MBA,
and is a Certified Association Executive.
Andrea Nemetz, Entertainment Reporter, Halifax Herald
After graduating from King's College with a degree in journalism, Andrea
worked at the Scotia Sun, a weekly newspaper in Port Hawkesbury and at
Canadian Press in Halifax before joining the Chronicle Herald in 1990.
She worked as a news and sports reporter, then moved to the entertainment
department in 1999.
