"Service and Leadership - How to Follow and Lead at the Same Time"
'Servant leadership' is a stimulating new way of looking at leadership.
Leadership does not have to be hierarchical or autocratic. The servant-leader
is a servant first, empowering through trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The practice of
servant-leadership is one which is already familiar to the information
profession because it is at the core of what we do in areas such as public
service and information literacy instruction. This lecture provides a
definition of servant-leadership and demonstrates the ways in which
information professionals already embody the practice.
A reception will follow the lecture at which the Associated Alumni of the
School will present the 2003 Outstanding Alumni Award to Ms. DeYoung.
