Hello Everyone:
Last year some of you participated in the Professional Partnering program with students at the Dalhousie School of Library and Information Studies. This year we are hoping to build on the success of last year's program. There is substantial interest among students at the School, and we hope that many of you will consider participating as a Professional Partner.
The program matches students with working professional librarians who have similar interests. It is largely unstructured, and each pair works out their own activities. Some activities from last year's program included: meeting for coffee and sharing ideas about careers and course selection, job shadowing, attending meetings together, tours of libraries, and attending library events and workshops together. The commitment is for one academic year.
Spending time with students in the Library and Information Studies program is a rewarding experience. It is useful to keep in touch with what new librarians are learning, and to see what attitudes and interests they will be bringing to your workplace.
For more details on participating in this year's Professional Partnering program, please go to:
http://www.mgmt.dal.ca/slis/PeopleGroups/CLA-SLIS/ppartner.html
Please fill out the application form and email or fax it to me at the address below by October 20. Even if you indicated your interest in continuing with the program when you returned your evaluation form from last year's program, please fill out a new form.
A kickoff event is planned for November 4.
Thanks, and I hope to hear from you!
Michael
