Digital Services Librarian (Revised)

The University of Windsor’s Leddy Library invites applications for a
tenure-track Digital  Services Librarian position commencing as early as
January 1, 2004.  Rank will be commensurate with experience.  This position
is subject to final budgetary approval.

The Leddy Library is an active partner in teaching and research at the
University.  As such, we seek a dynamic, innovative, team-oriented
professional to provide proactive support and services to our user

Reporting to the Head, Reference Services the successful candidate will
provide leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the
Library’s digital presence and assets.  This includes leading the
evaluation and development of digital services (e.g. reference tools,
full-text journal suites, institutional repositories); providing an
in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the deployment and maintenance
of these services (e.g. infrastructure requirements, budget implications,
licensing issues).  The incumbent will collaborate on the provision of
effective and consistent access to digital services through resource
identification/linking/ annotation, web access, metadata schemes and
related standards and technologies.  S/he will contribute to provincial and
national consortial activities.

The incumbent will have proven ability to work independently and
collegially with librarians, faculty and students to identify digital
service needs for the University of Windsor community.  S/he will possess
the initiative, creativity and consensus- building skills to develop,
promote and evaluate these services across a diverse range of research and
learning environments and within and across organizational boundaries. The
successful candidate will be joining a dynamic team, making a strong
contribution to the Library’s information literacy programme and to the
overall planning and management of library services.

An ALA-accredited MLS (or equivalent) is required.  In-depth knowledge of
the use of and issues surrounding digital services is essential.
Familiarity with standard practices in web development and delivery is
required.  The successful candidate must have excellent communication and
teaching skills.  Working knowledge of current and emerging bibliographic
and other metadata schemes would be an asset.
