The Nova Scotia Teachers Union invites applications for a support staff level
position as Librarian.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the management
of the Bruce Hunter Memorial Library. This is a special library environment
and exists to serve the needs of a specific clientele; firstly, the NSTU staff
officers, secondly, the teacher-members of the organization, and finally, the
public at large. Duties include:
· Research
· Ordering
· Cataloguing
· Collections management
· Circulation control
· Inter-library loans
· Management of library budget
· Subscription maintenance (invoicing, renewals, cancellations, etc)
· Serving on internal committees and workgroups
QUALIFICATIONS
· Candidates must have a Master of Library and Information Studies degree
awarded by an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years experience
in a special library environment
· A high degree of computer and web literacy
· Ability to conduct research under the direction of Executive/Intermediate
Staff
· Ability to work independently
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Previous experience within the public education system in Nova Scotia would
be a definite asset, as would proficiency in French
