QUALIFICATIONS:

Memorial University is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and experienced
cataloguer for a one-year term appointment as a sabbatical leave replacement.
The successful candidate will have a degree from an ALA accredited graduate
program, with several years' cataloguing experience in an online environment
using AACR2 and the Library of Congress Classification and Subject Headings.
He/she will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an ability to
work effectively both independently and as a member of a group. Knowledge of
non-book cataloguing practices will be desirable, as will experience with the
MARC21 authorities format. Familiarity with Sirsi/Workflows will be an asset.

DESCRIPTION:

The Bibliographic Control Services Division is located in the Queen Elizabeth
II Library, the central library in Memorial's system. The Division, with a
staff of five librarians and twenty-three library assistants, is the largest of
the technical services units in the library system and is responsible for
acquisitions and cataloguing of resources in all formats. Memorial's
librarians are forward-looking and dedicated professionals, committed to high
standards of record quality and public service. Memorial was the first
institution in Canada to participate in NACO (the Name Authority Cooperative
Project). As one of a collegial group of cataloguers, the successful candidate
will perform original cataloguing for resources in any of a range of formats
and subject areas, in accordance with his/her qualifications and the library's
priorities. Materials for original cataloguing include serials, electronic
resources, government documents, scores and sound recordings, audio-visual
materials, maps, rare books, and academic theses. Works catalogued may be for
specialized collections such as marine studies, or medicine and health, or may
be unique titles for a comprehensive collection relating to Newfoundland and
Labrador.

BENEFITS:
An appointment at the rank of Librarian II or III is anticipated. Based on
experience and qualifications, salary floors are $43,543 and $49,419
respectively. Memorial offers standard academic benefits including
