Le bureau provincial du Service des bibliothèques publiques du
Nouveau-Brunswick (SBPNB), l'agence centrale responsable de la gestion du
réseau des bibliothèques publiques dans la province, est à la recherche
d'un(e) bibliothécaire des services techniques. Le SBPNB est un milieu
dynamique axé sur le travail en équipe.

FONCTIONS :   Relevant de la Chef du service de catalogage, le ou la
bibliothécaire des services techniques fait partie d'une équipe de
professionnel(le)s qui effectue le catalogage dérivé original et complexe en
français et en anglais et l'entrée des données dans le catalogue collectif
provincial qui compte plus de 1,8 million de documents. Le catalogue
collectif est utilisé conjointement par le bureau provincial, 5 bureaux
régionaux, 62 bibliothèques publiques et 4 bibliobus, lesquels constituent
le SBPNB.

Le bibliothécaire des services techniques agit comme personne-ressource pour
le contrôle bibliographique, participe à la gestion du catalogue et au
contrôle des notices d'autorité du système automatisé DRA Inlex 3000;
demeure à l'affût des développements et des nouveaux produits permettant
d'améliorer les procédures de catalogage; participe à la formation du
personnel des services techniques concernant les nouvelles initiatives;
participe à l'automatisation et à la planification des activités des
services techniques; contribue à l'élaboration des politiques et procédures
de catalogage; produit des rapports à partir de la base de données; gère des
projets spéciaux; et aide à planifier la migration des données vers un
nouvelle interface fonctionnant à partir d'Internet.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : Maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et science de
l'information accréditée par l'ALA. Connaissance de RCAA2, des
vedettes-matière de Laval, CSH et LC, de la classification Dewey, de
l'interprétation des règles de LC et des principes de notice d'autorité.
Excellentes compétences techniques. Esprit d'équipe et initiative. La
connaissance du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est
essentielle.

Technical Services Librarian
Contract position (one year) with possibility of renewal

New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS), the central agency responsible
for the management of the provincial public library system, invites
applications for the position of Technical Services Librarian.  NBPLS is a
dynamic team oriented work place.

DUTIES:  Reporting to the Head of Cataloguing Services, the Technical
Services Librarian is part of a team of professionals who performs original
and complex copy cataloguing in English and in French for inclusion in a
provincial union catalogue of more than 1.8 million items.  The union
catalogue is shared by the provincial office, the 5 regions, 62 public
libraries and 4 bookmobiles that make up the NBPLS.

The Technical Services Librarian serves as a resource person for
bibliographic control; assists with catalogue maintenance and authority
control of the DRA Inlex 3000 automated library system; researches
advancements and products that may improve cataloguing procedures;
participates in the training of technical services staff on new initiatives;
participates in automation and technical services planning; contributes to
the formulation of cataloguing policies and procedures; produces reports
from the database; manages special projects as required; and assists in
planning the migration to a web based interface.

QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA accredited Masters degree in Library and Information
Science and cataloguing experience in an online environment. Knowledge of
AACR2, LC, CSH and Laval subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, LC
rule interpretations and principles of authority control. Strong technical
skills. Initiative and ability to work in a team environment. Written and
spoken competence in English and French is essential.

position.

NOTE:   Subject to the response to this competition, qualifications related
to education and experience may be raised.

BASE SALARY:  $1,350 bi-weekly.  Starting date: May or June 2003.
