ASSISTANT REGIONAL DIRECTOR

OPEN

New Brunswick Public Library Service is searching for a dynamic professional
librarian with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public libraries,
to serve as Assistant Regional Director of the Haut-Saint-Jean Library
Region in Edmundston.

DUTIES: Reporting to the Regional Director, the Assistant Regional Director
is part of the regional management team and takes part in the development,
communication and implementation of regional and provincial vision, and
strategic and operational plans.

The Assistant Regional Director oversees all small libraries in the region
(those with a population served of 3,999 or less), as well as the
bookmobile, the talking book service, the inter-library and inter-region
loan service and the regional technical services unit. He or she is
responsible for the development and implementation of sound management
practices and for the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of
managers and supervisors of the above services.

Duties include: coordinating provincial and regional programs and projects
for the region in their areas of responsibility; coordinating and
supervising the development of library automation at the regional level;
participating in a variety of provincial, regional and community committees;
assisting in the analysis of staff training needs and in the planning of
appropriate training to meet them; assisting in the development of regional
policies and procedures; assisting in the management of collections on a
regional scale including selection and weeding; attending regional library
manager meetings as well as regional forum meetings as required;
making
presentations; attending meetings of library boards as required; supervising
the compilation of regional statistics; researching and writing reports;
coordinating the publication of regional material as required; and assuming
other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Regional Director will assume key responsibilities within the
region in the absence of the Regional Director.

QUALIFICATIONS: We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated
sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills. A
masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited
school and at least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience
in management and supervision are required. Written and spoken competence
in English and in French is required.

The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication
skills. He or she must also have a strong knowledge of library automation
software, of the Internet and of electronic reference tools. This position
requires travel and a valid driver's license is required.

CONCOURS PUBLIC

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick cherche un(e)
bibliothécaire professionnel(le) dynamique et enthousiaste envers la mission
des bibliothèques publiques pour combler le poste de directeur régional
adjoint ou directrice régionale adjointe au sein de la Région de
bibliothèques du Haut-Saint-Jean à Edmundston.

FONCTIONS : Relevant de la directrice régionale, le directeur régional
adjoint ou la directrice régionale adjointe fait partie de l'équipe
régionale de gestion et participe à l'élaboration, la communication et la
mise en oeuvre de la vision régionale et provinciale ainsi que des plans
stratégiques et opérationnels.

Le directeur régional adjoint ou la directrice régionale adjointe supervise
les petites bibliothèques de la région (c.-à-d. desservant une population de
3,999 personnes ou moins), le service de bibliobus, le service des livres
sonores, le service de prêts entre succursales et entre régions ainsi que
les services techniques régionaux. Il ou elle est responsable du
développement et de la mise en oeuvre de judicieuses pratiques de gestion,
ainsi que de l'embauche, la formation, la supervision et l'évaluation des
gestionnaires et superviseurs des services ci-haut mentionnés.

Les fonctions consistent entre autres à coordonner la mise en oeuvre
régionale des programmes et projets régionaux et provinciaux dans son
domaine de responsabilité; coordonner et superviser le développement de
l'automatisation à l'échelle régionale; participer à divers comités
provinciaux, régionaux et communautaires; participer à l'évaluation des
besoins de formation du personnel et à la planification d'activités de
formation; participer à l'élaboration des politiques et procédures
régionales; participer à la gestion de la collection régionale, y compris la
sélection et l'élagage; participer aux réunions des gestionnaires de
bibliothèque ainsi que du forum régional selon les besoins; faire des
présentations; superviser la compilation des statistiques régionales; mener
des recherches et rédiger des rapports; coordonner la publication de
documentation régionale selon les besoins; et accomplir les autres tâches
qui lui sont confiées.

Le directeur régional adjoint ou la directrice régionale adjointe assume des
responsabilités de premier plan en l'absence de la directrice régionale.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : La personne recherchée fait preuve de leadership
et possède un excellent sens de l'organisation, de même que des aptitudes
pour la résolution de problèmes et l'analyse. Elle possède une maîtrise en
bibliothéconomie et en sciences de l'information d'une école accréditée par
l'ALA ainsi qu'au moins quatre (4) années d'expérience comprenant des
responsabilités croissantes en gestion et en supervision. La connaissance
du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est essentielle.

La personne choisie possède d'excellentes aptitudes pour les relations
interpersonnelles et la communication. De plus, elle connaît très bien les
logiciels utilisés par les bibliothèques ainsi que les outils Internet et
électroniques de référence. Ce poste nécessite des déplacements, et un
permis de conduire valide est requis.
