"Information Seeking in a Clinical Midwifery Setting"
Dr. Pamela J. McKenzie, Faculty of Information and Media Studies,
University of Western Ontario
Date & Time: Friday, February 28, 2003, 12:45 p.m.- 2:00 p.m.
Location: McMechan Auditorium, Killam Library
In this lecture Dr. McKenzie will present initial findings of a project
that is examining communication between midwives and their clients. She
will draw on recent applications of constructionist approaches to
information seeking in everyday life contexts. More particularly, she will
discuss positioning theory and show how participants in a clinical care
setting position themselves and others in ways that justify different
forms of information seeking and giving. Her research has implications for
information delivery in health care contexts.
Dr, McKenzie received an MA from the University of New Brunswick and an
MLIS and Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario. She has been an
assistant professor in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, UWO
since 2001. Her research focuses on information needs, seeking, and use,
and she is currently interested in information seeking in pregnancy
contexts.
This lecture is open to the public at "no charge." ALL ARE WELCOME
