CONCOURS PUBLIC

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick est à la
recherche d'une personne énergique, créative et enthousiaste envers les
nouvelles technologies et la mission des bibliothèques publiques pour
assurer la mise en marche et la gestion d'un service de référence virtuelle
dans la Péninsule acadienne. Le lieu de travail est la Bibliothèque publique
Mgr-Paquet à Caraquet. La bibliothèque fait partie de la Région de
bibliothèques Chaleur.

FONCTIONS :  Le/la bibliothécaire de référence virtuelle doit assurer la
prestation d'un service de référence de qualité en utilisant un logiciel de
référence virtuelle.  Il/elle doit aussi jouer un rôle clé dans le
développement de ce projet pilote en prenant part au comité de
planification; en supervisant l'équipe du projet pilote ; en participant au
développement de la collection de référence virtuelle; en se servant de son
expertise pour offrir de l'aide au personnel de la région en ce qui a trait
à la référence virtuelle et à l'utilisation des ressources électroniques ;
et en menant des projets spéciaux.

Les fonctions consistent, entre autres, à préparer un plan de formation sur
la référence virtuelle pour les employés impliqués dans le projet; à
développer et entretenir la collection pour le service de référence
virtuelle, à développer des guides d'usager à l'intention du public sur des
sujets variés (recherche dans le catalogue, ressources électroniques, etc);
à répondre aux questions de référence dans un environnement virtuel; à
fournir de la formation en ligne aux usagers; à contribuer à la création
d'une base de connaissances (des questions de référence fréquemment posées);
à agir comme bibliothécaire-ressources pour les autres membres du personnel
de la région; et à accomplir d'autres tâches reliées à la référence et à la
formation dans la région.

Ce poste comprend des heures de travail en soirée et la fin de semaine. La
personne choisie pourrait être appelée à se déplacer et doit posséder un
permis de conduire valide.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : Maîtrise d'un programme en bibliothéconomie
et/ou sciences de l'information accrédité par l'ALA, ainsi que la
connaissance de logiciels de bibliothèque, des principaux outils de
référence électronique, et des principes de gestion de collection sont
essentielles. La connaissance des principes de la référence virtuelle est
requise.  Il est aussi nécessaire de savoir utiliser le courrier
électronique, l'Internet et le logiciel MS-Word. La connaissance du français
à l'oral et à l'écrit et une connaissance fonctionnelle de l'anglais est
essentielle.

Une certaine expérience dans la prestation d'un service de référence y
compris de la recherche automatisée serait un atout.

La personne choisie saura faire preuve de leadership et possèdera
d'excellentes aptitudes pour la gestion, la supervision, les communications
et les relations interpersonnelles. Elle aura aussi un bon sens de
l'organisation et de très bonnes habiletés pour l'analyse, la résolution de
problèmes et le travail d'équipe.

Virtual Reference Librarian

New Brunswick Public Library Service is searching for a creative and dynamic
professional librarian with demonstrated enthusiasm for emerging
technologies and for the mission of public libraries to oversee the
establishment and management of a virtual reference service in the Acadian
Peninsula.  The place of work will be the Mgr. Paquet Public Library in
Caraquet, which is part of the Chaleur Library Region.

DUTIES:  The Virtual Reference Librarian is responsible for the delivery of
quality reference service via virtual reference software.  He or she will
play a key role in the development of this pilot project by participating in
the planning committee; by supervising the pilot project team; by
participating in the development of reference collections in traditional and
virtual formats; by using their expertise to assist staff in the delivery of
reference service and in the use of electronic resources; and by leading
special projects.

Duties include:  preparing a training plan on virtual reference for
employees involved in the project; developing and maintaining the virtual
reference collection; developing user guides on such topics as searching the
catalogue and searching electronic resources; responding to reference
questions in a virtual environment; providing online training to users;
creating a knowledge database of frequently asked reference questions;
serving as a resource librarian for staff of the Chaleur Library Region; and
other duties related to training and reference service in the region.

This position requires evening and weekend shifts.  Some travel will be
required and the successful candidate must possess a valid driver's licence.

QUALIFICATIONS :  A Masters Degree in Library and/or Information Science
from an ALA accredited school is required.  Knowledge of library automation,
of electronic reference tools, and of the principles of collection
development are essential.  Knowledge of the principles of virtual reference
is required.  Experience with e-mail, the Internet and MS-Word are
necessary.  Written and spoken competence in French accompanied by a working
knowledge in English is essential.

Some experience in offering reference service and in searching electronic
reference tools would be an asset.

The successful candidate will possess excellent management, leadership,
communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.  A demonstrated sense
of organization as well as a strong aptitude for problem solving, analysis
and teamwork are necessary

Candidates must demonstrate on their applications how, when and where they
have acquired the qualifications and skills required for this position

NOTE:  Subject to the response to this competition, qualifications related
to education and experience may be raised.

BASE SALARY:  $1,343 bi-weekly.
