To all members of the APLA-LIST
I would like to propose the formation of a new APLA interest group for
librarians and information professionals who have been in the profession
for about 5 years or less. Given the increasing number of retirements and
consequently new librarians in the Atlantic region, the interest group
would be a good way to integrate new professionals into our Library
community. The group would essentially mirror the one in CLA and the main
function would be to facilitate networking and mentoring through:
* hosting events at the APLA conference (perhaps a breakfast and an evening
social)
* organizing a session at the conference of interest to new librarians
* organizing an informal buddy system at the conference - mentors and new
librarians can volunteer to be included.
* operating an email list where members can post messages
If you would like to join a New Librarian and Information Professional
Interest Group please email me at [log in to unmask] I am hoping there will be
sufficient response (according to the rules - at least 6 people) so an
interest group can be established at the APLA Fall Executive meeting and we
can start planning events for the APLA conference 2003 in St. John's.
I look forward to hearing from you!!
Regards
Emma Cross
