GODFREY, Maud Ethel Churchman, BA BLS - Halifax, passed away Monday, October
21, 2002, in Centennial Villa, Amherst. Born in Toronto, she was a daughter
of the late Maj. Edward A. and Charlotte (Churchman) Godfrey. Educated in
Toronto, she graduated from the University of Toronto Library School in 1940
and served in the Hamilton Public Library, Ontario, first in the reference
library and later as head of Kenilworth Branch. She moved to Halifax in
1967, to take charge of the reference services section of the Nova Scotia
Provincial Library and its Nova Scotia Union Catalogue. She retired in 1977
and served as a volunteer at the Nova Scotia Museum. She served as editor of
the Griffin Newspaper of Heritage Trust Nova Scotia. She was a member of the
Universalist Unitarian Church and served as its librarian. She was a member
of the Canadian Library Association, Atlantic Provinces and Halifax Library
Assocition, The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and Halifax Field Naturalists.
Surviving are nieces, Charlotte Ross, Amherst; Rosemary Donkin, Oxford;
nephew, Maj. Thomas E. Leitch, Fredericton, N.B.; four grandnieces and four
grandnephews. She was predeceased by brother, John; sister, Agnes Leitch.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday,
October 31, in The Universalist Unitarian Church, 5500 Inglis St., Halifax,
Rev. John W. Baros-Johnson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to
The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia, The Universalist Unitarian Church,
