CALL FOR PAPERS AND WORKSHOPS / APPEL A LA PRESENTATION DE PAPIERS ET D'
ATELIERS:

WILU -- The 32nd Annual Workshop on Instruction in Library Use is to be
held May 12 to 14, 2003 in Windsor, Ontario at the University of Windsor.

In keeping with Windsor's geographical placement on the border between
Canada and the United States, and library instruction's occupation of a
liminal space within most academic institutions, the theme for WILU 2003 is
Bridging the Gap: Teaching Across Boundaries.

The programme committee, therefore, seeks proposals for workshops,
presentations, and panel discussions from presenters who will discuss and
explore, in depth, the various gaps, bridges and shared boundaries
surrounding information literacy initiatives in the 21st century. Examples
of discussion areas include librarian collaborations with university
administrators and/or faculty, issues surrounding the integration of
information literacy skills into the curriculum, and the development of a
teaching culture within the librarian community. Another related focus of
discussion will be the relationship between the teaching of information
literacy and social justice concerns. We encourage teaching workshop
proposals which incorporate active learning strategies for the
participants, as well as presentations based on scholarly research.

Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Campus collaborations -- curricular and non-curricular attempts at
embedding the ACRL competencies or other information literacy standards
Educating students about alternative sources of information and barriers
   to access
Library instruction for students with disabilities
   Library instruction and cultural diversity
Critical pedagogy -- theory and/or techniques for teaching
Issues surrounding database interfaces and information literacy
Instructional design -- is it possible to go beyond Booleans in online
   tutorials?
Teaching students to think critically about the scholarly research
   process
   Information literacy and interdisciplinarity
Information literacy and lifelong learning -- evaluating short and/or
   long-term success

Submissions and presentations are welcomed in either English or French.
Online submissions may be made by November 20th at the WILU 2003 website:
