Canada's newest Legislative Assembly will be a challenging and unique place
in which to work and grow. The Legislative Librarian has direct
responsibility for planning, budgeting, managing and evaluating the total
scope of services, operations, facilities, and collection of the
institution. Serving the Members of the Legislative Assembly, Standing and
Special Committees, the Office of the Speaker, the Office of the Clerk, GN
departments and other clients, the Legislative Librarian ensures that the
unique information needs of this diverse client set are met.
The ideal candidate will have a Master of Library & Information Science
degree with a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in
a government, academic or research library. Two years in a supervisory
position is required. Candidates must demonstrate a successful track record
of working in cross-cultural, multilingual environments. Mentoring and
training staff is a vital element of this position, and candidates must also
demonstrate a successful track record in this area.
Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and communications skills are required,
as well as a demonstrated working knowledge of all aspects of Library and
Information Science, including; proficiency in providing comprehensive
reference and research services using commercial online databases; the
Internet; CD-ROMs and print-based materials; strong library automation and
website design knowledge; cataloguing, classification and subject analysis
experience; knowledge of reference materials and federal, provincial and
territorial government documents; and interdisciplinary subject background
with a strength in Nunavut and Northern issues, public policy, and Inuit
culture. The ability to work well under pressure in a team environment is
important, as is a sense of humour. The ability to speak, read, and write in
Inuktitut/Inuinnaqtun is a definite asset.
Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, experience,
knowledge, skills and abilities equal to the formal education and experience
criteria will be considered.
Salary starts at $66,261.00 plus a Northern Allowance of $11,303.00 per
annum.
