Subject: Morrissey's Kit's Law wins U.S. Alex Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 4, 2002
Kit's Law by Donna Morrissey wins U.S. Alex Award
Kit's Law by Donna Morrissey is a winner of the Alex Award. It was
chosen as one of the ten best adult books deemed relevant and
significant to young adult readers. The Alex winners are selected by
a Committee of the Young Adult Library Services Association of the
American Library Association. It honours the distinguished librarian
Margaret Alexander Edwards who believed teenagers should have the
full run of the library - with help and direction.
The Alex Awards were created to recognize that more teens enjoy and
often prefer books written for adults, and to assist librarians in
recommending adult books that appeal to teens. The Alex Awards are
announced at the ALA annual conference, this year held in Atlanta,
and are part of the Adult Books for Young Adults project. In
addition to selecting titles for the highly-prized Alex Awards, the
project presents a program for a sustained, systematic examination
of the role of adult books in the lives of young adult readers with
special attention to publishing, marketing and reading guidance.
Kit's Law is published in the U.S. by Houghton Mifflin which will
release Donna Morrissey's second novel, Downhill Chance in 2003.
Kit's Law is currently in its 12th printing in Canada where it was
initially released in1999. Morrissey is published in Britain by
Hodder & Stoughton. Kit's Law has been purchased for translation in
German by Diana, by Forum in Swedish, and by Aoyoma in Japanese.
Donna is currently at work on her third novel, Rocking Her Babies,
due to be published Penguin Canada in 2004.
The prize includes an engraved bronze medal.
