Mount Saint Vincent University Library requires a Supervisor,
Circulation Department. This is a permanent, full-time Staff
Association position.
Duties:
Reporting to the Coordinator of Public Services, the Supervisor,
Circulation Department is responsible for the administration of all
Circulation Department services, ensuring consistent and efficient
service in accord with Library and Novanet policies. The Circulation
Desk operates eighty-eight hours each week with day, evening and
weekend shifts.
Supervising, scheduling and organizing the day-to-day
operations/activities of the Circulation Department, working in
conjunction with other library and university departments;
identifying and developing procedures that fulfil the short and long-
term goals of the Circulation Department; implementing Novanet
procedures and upgrades as these apply to Circulation service;
providing technical guidance to staff; preparation of documentation
and handling of correspondence; overseeing Reserve processing,
Novanet Express Document Delivery Service, reciprocal borrowing
with university libraries nation-wide, notice and report production for
overdues, fines, holds, recalls, and bills for replacement; financial
transactions relating to sales and fines; patron registration;
requisitioning of supplies and the organization of book sales;
troubleshooting for the department, handling all
complaints/concerns and revising Circulation policy as appropriate.
In conjunction with the Coordinator of Public services, the
incumbent will interview, hire and evaluate permanent staff, and will
be responsible for the interviewing, hiring and evaluation of Student
Assistants. The incumbent will also provide instructional and
reference /research assistance, conduct tours and workshops, and
draft appropriate documentation as a participant in the Reference
Service roster; maintain records and draft an annual report for the
Head Librarian, with recommendations for the improvement of
Circulation services and will also oversee the annual updating of the
Circulation Department manual. The incumbent acts as the
University's representative on Novanet inter-university committees,
and is a member of various other committees.
Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor of Arts degree with three years'
library experience with related supervisory experience. Excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, good judgement,
and experience with automated library systems are essential.
