ACTING ASSISTANT REGIONAL DIRECTOR
Chaleur Library Region headquarters, Campbellton (N.B.)
(10 month contract)

Starting date: June 2002

The New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) invites applications for
the position of Acting Assistant Regional Director of the Chaleur Library
Region for a 10 month contract.  Our regional headquarters is located in
Campbellton at the northern tip of the Appalachian Mountain Range, a region
renowned for its scenic beauty.

The Chaleur Library Region is made up of a regional headquarters, 11 public
libraries and a bookmobile and spans the Restigouche area and the Acadian
Peninsula.

DUTIES:  Reporting to the Regional Director, the Assistant Regional Director
is responsible for supervising the regional technical services unit;
providing professional support to public libraries within the region;
coordinating provincial programs for the region; planning and implementing
regional projects; coordinating and supervising the development of library
automation at the regional level; participating in a variety of provincial,
regional and community committees; assisting in the analysis of staff
training needs and in the planning of appropriate training to meet them;
assisting in the development of regional policies and procedures; assisting
in the development of collections on a regional scale; organizing library
manager meetings; researching and writing reports as required; supervising
inter-library and inter-region loan services; supervising the compilation of
regional statistics; and coordinating publication of regional material as
required.

QUALIFICATIONS:  We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated
sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills.  A
masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited
school is essential.  Strong knowledge of library software, the Internet and
electronic reference tools are required.  Experience in managing and
supervising staff would be a significant asset.  The successful candidate
will have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Written and spoken
competence in English and French is essential.

SALARY:  $1,297  bi-weekly.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick (SBPNB) est à la
recherche d'un directeur adjoint régional par intérim ou d'une directrice
adjointe régionale par intérim pour la Région de bibliothèques Chaleur.
Notre bureau régional est situé à Campbellton, sur la pointe nord de la
chaîne de montagnes des Appalaches, une région reconnue pour la beauté
spectaculaire de ses paysages.

La Région de bibliothèques Chaleur comprend un bureau régional, 11
bibliothèques publiques et un bibliobus. Le territoire desservi englobe la
région de Restigouche et la Péninsule acadienne.

FONCTIONS :  Relevant de la directrice régionale, la personne choisie
s'occupera de la supervision des services techniques régionaux; offrira un
soutien professionnel aux bibliothèques publiques faisant partie de la
région; coordonnera les programmes provinciaux pour la région; planifiera et
mettra en oeuvre divers projets régionaux; coordonnera et supervisera le
développement de l'automatisation des bibliothèques à l'échelle régionale;
participera à divers comités provinciaux, régionaux et communautaires;
aidera à l'analyse des besoins de formation du personnel et planifiera la
prestation des formations appropriées pour répondre à ces besoins;
participera à l'élaboration de politiques et de procédures régionales;
contribuera au développement des collections à l'échelle régionale;
organisera des rencontres entre les responsables des bibliothèques; fera des
recherches et rédigera des rapports au besoin; supervisera les services de
prêts entre les bibliothèques et entre les régions; supervisera la
compilation de statistiques régionales; et coordonnera la publication de
matériel régional au besoin.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : La personne choisie doit faire preuve de
leadership et posséder un excellent sens de l'organisation, de même que des
aptitudes pour la résolution de problèmes et l'analyse. Elle doit avoir une
maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et en sciences de l'information d'une école
accréditée par l'ALA. Elle doit très bien connaître les logiciels utilisés
par les bibliothèques ainsi que les outils Internet et électroniques de
référence. L'expérience de la gestion et de la surveillance de personnel
serait un atout. La personne choisie doit posséder d'excellentes aptitudes
pour les relations interpersonnelles et la communication. La connaissance du
français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est essentielle.

TRAITEMENT :  :  1 297 $ à la quinzaine.
