Greetings from Edmonton -
As part of my summer work for Ernie Ingles at the University of Alberta, I
will be travelling to the Maritimes through June and July to research and
write profiles of small town libraries. This foray into the rich library
landscape of the Maritime provinces is part of Ernie Ingles' ongoing
fascination with rural life. As he asks: "Who are the people who live in
these small communities? What are their stories? What businesses, public
facilities or memorials define a community personality? In particular, what
is the nature of library services and who are the individuals providing that
service?".
Ernie Ingles has been compiling these profiles over the past several years
and publishing a subset of them in Feliciter as part of an ongoing series
(the most recent stories can be found in Feliciter volume 47 no. 5 & 6,
2001).
I am seeking any assistance you may have to offer at this initial stage.
Would you like your library to be profiled or do you know of a library
that's a definite "must-see"?
I am very excited about this project and look forward to hearing from anyone
from the New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island library
community. I would also ask that you forward this email to anyone who you
feel would be interested in participating in this research project. I can
reached via email at [log in to unmask] or phone (780) 492-8829.
