The Cumberland Regional Library, headquartered in Amherst, Nova Scotia, has
an opening for an Assistant Librarian.
The Cumberland Regional Library serves rural, northwestern Nova Scotia
through 7 branch libraries and books by mail service.
Requirements:
A Masters degree in Library and Information Studies from an ALA accredited
library school.
Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 3 years library
experience, especially in a regional or public library setting.
Must have a strong working knowledge of automated library systems,
demonstrated experience in staff supervision, reference service, collection
development, programming, budgeting, and project management. Must have a
valid driver's license.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assist the Chief Librarian in the overall
operation of the Regional Library and serve as the Acting Chief Librarian
during the Chief's absence. You will oversee the coordination of technical
services and automated library functions, supervise and train staff, ensure
that library policies and procedures are maintained throughout the system,
provide reference support, work assigned shifts on the circulation desk of
the Amherst branch, assist in the supervision of branch libraries
throughout the region, participate in collection development, and conduct
programs as required. Includes evening and weekend work.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
