Lesley Ellen Harris’ newest editorial is worth taking
a look it.  It does an excellent job of bringing to
light the issues facing libraries, authors, and
library patrons regarding the possibility and
desirability of a single international copyright law.
Currently, as directed by the Berne Copyright
Convention, copyright law is applied based on the
country in which the material is used.  Lesley points
out the problems this presents in regards to copyright
use and infringement that takes place on the Internet.
 She also points out the potential incompatibility of
different national approaches to copyright (citing the
United States, France, and Canada).
