LIBRARIAN III (HALIFAX)

The Librarian plans, develops, and manages the library's information systems and products designed to bring information to the desktops of the Legislative Library's users. This includes the management and evaluation of the current integrated library system and the analysis of future system requirements. This position plans and develops the library's web-based services, digital imaging and database projects and is responsible for introducing innovative technological applications that enhance and expand service to MLAs and staff. The librarian must liaise with IT support staff, software and hardware vendors and must be able to lead and train technical services staff. Provides expertise and advice on the planning and general direction of information technology in the Library.
Masters of Library Science plus 5 years professional library experience. A degree in computer science is preferred. Experience with automated integrated library systems, web site development, and contract negotiation is required along with proven project management and leadership skills. Demonstrated knowledge of: the principles and techniques of designing and implementing IT solutions for the delivery of information resources, of indexing and other information retrieval processes and library standards for database development is required. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of microcomputers, their software and operating systems and Internet authoring languages. Must demonstrate a high level of creativity, motivation and initiative. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

SALARY RANGE: $39,981-$48,601
