The New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) Provincial Office invites
applications for the position of Public Services Librarian - Emerging
Services. We are searching for a creative individual with a technical
background and a keen interest in public service, who is interested in
building library services of the future in a team environment.

DUTIES: The NBPLS Provincial Office is responsible for the overall
management of the public library system in New Brunswick. The system is made
up of the provincial office, 5 regional headquarters, 61 public libraries
and 4 bookmobiles, as well as a Virtual Reference Library and a provincial
web site. Reporting to the Assistant Director of NBPLS, the Public Services
Librarian - Emerging Services will play a lead role in researching and
recommending service advancements, particularly in the area of technology
based initiatives and online services.  Duties will include researching and
assisting in the development of provincial projects such as training
packages for staff and public, piloting emerging technologies that impact
public service, preparing grant applications and assisting in the management
of successful grants, assisting in the development of web content at both
the provincial and local levels, and conducting research and writing
reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an
ALA accredited school, and practical experience in developing Internet based
library services and in overseeing projects.  Knowledge of HTML, MS Access,
Active Server Pages, SQL and integrated library software would be
significant assets.  The successful candidate will have strong oral and
written communication skills, as well as organizational and research skills.
Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.  An equivalent combination of
training and experience may be considered.  Written and spoken competence in
English and French is essential.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick (SBPNB) est à la
recherche d'un(e)  bibliothécaire des services publics responsable de la
mise en oeuvre de ses nouveaux services. Nous cherchons une personne
créative et dynamique qui possède de bonnes connaissances techniques et un
intérêt marqué pour les services publics. Elle doit aussi être intéressée à
bâtir en équipe les services de bibliothèque de l'avenir.

FONCTIONS : Le bureau provincial du SBPNB est responsable de la gestion de
l'ensemble du réseau de bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick. Le
réseau est constitué du bureau provincial, de 5 bureaux régionaux, de 61
bibliothèques publiques et de 4 bibliobus, de même que d'un site Web
provincial et d'une bibliothèque de référence virtuelle en cours
d'élaboration. Relevant de la directrice adjointe du SBPNB, le ou la
bibliothécaire des services publics responsable des nouveaux services,
jouera un rôle de premier plan dans la recherche, la recommandation et la
mise en oeuvre d'améliorations à apporter à nos services, et ce,
particulièrement dans le domaine des initiatives axées sur la technologie et
les services en ligne. La personne choisie participera, entre autres, à des
projets provinciaux tels que l'élaboration de trousses de formation à
l'intention du personnel et du public; la mise à l'essai de nouvelles
technologies appliquées aux services publics; la préparation de demandes de
subventions et la gestion des subventions obtenues; l'élaboration de sites
Web tant à l'échelle locale que provinciale; et la recherche et la rédaction
de rapports.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : Les candidat(e)s doivent détenir une maîtrise en
bibliothéconomie et en science de l'information d'une école accréditée par
l'ALA et posséder de l'expérience dans le développement de services de
bibliothèque accessibles sur Internet et dans la supervision de projets. La
connaissance du HTML, de MS Access, Active Server Pages, SQL et des
logiciels intégrés de bibliothèque serait un atout important. La personne
choisie possédera d'excellentes aptitudes pour la communication écrite et
orale de même qu'un bon sens de l'organisation et une facilité pour la
recherche. Nous encourageons les diplômé(e)s récent(e)s à poser leur
candidature. L'équivalent en formation et en expérience peut être considéré.
La connaissance du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est
essentielle.
