NETWORK MANAGER
New Brunswick Public Library Service
Fredericton
(Pay Band 04)

OPEN

The New Brunswick Public Library Service Provincial Office, the central
agency responsible for the management of the provincial public library
system, invites applications for the position of Network Manager.  We are
searching for a creative individual who can provide leadership in
technically supporting library services for the 21st century in a team
environment.

DUTIES:  As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Network Manager
takes lead responsibility for the development and support of New Brunswick
Public Library Service's information technology infrastructure for the
provincial office, 5 library headquarters, 61 public libraries and 4
bookmobiles.  The Network manager supports a province wide Frame Relay
network; specialised library automation software (DRA Inlex 3000); the
system web site and Virtual Reference Library; office automation and
Internet access; evaluates and recommends technological advancements to
support the strategic direction of New Brunswick Public Library Service;
provides direction to a staff of 6 technical support analysts; participates
in IT and automation planning; co-ordinates service provision and vendor
contracts; makes recommendations for IT purchases; trains staff on IT
concerns; programs original applications and manages special projects as
required.  The Network Manager will also work in close co-operation with the
Department of Education IT division for the provision of IT service to
libraries.

QUALIFICATIONS:  A University Degree with major course work in Computer
Science or Engineering, and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant IT
experience.  An equivalent combination of experience and education, such as
completion of a community college or technical school certificate coupled
with extensive experience, may be considered.  Strong networking knowledge
using Windows NT is essential.  Knowledge of Visual Basic, MS Access, Active
Server Pages (ASP), SQL, HTML as well as familiarity with library automation
and library systems would be significant assets. The successful candidate
will possess strong technical, supervisory, leadership, management and
communi-cations skills.  Written and spoken competency in French and English
is essential.
Candidates must demonstrate on their applications how they have acquired the
skills and qualifications required for this position.

Le bureau provincial du Service des bibliothèques publiques du
Nouveau-Brunswick (SBPNB), l'organisme central responsable de la gestion du
réseau provincial des bibliothèques publiques, vous invite à poser votre
candidature pour le poste de gestionnaire de réseau.  Le SBPNB est à la
recherche d'une personne créative qui pourra assurer un leadership au sein
de l'équipe responsable de la prestation du soutien technique au réseau des
bibliothèques au 21e siècle.

FONCTIONS : À titre de membre de l'équipe de direction, le ou la
gestionnaire de réseau a la responsabilité première de l'élaboration et du
soutien de l'infrastructure en technologie de l'information pour le bureau
provincial, les 5 bureaux régionaux, les 61 bibliothèques publiques et les 4
bibliobus du SBPNB.  Le ou la gestionnaire du réseau s'occupe de la gestion
d'un réseau à relais de trames à l'échelle provinciale, qui est spécialisé
en logiciel d'automatisation des services de bibliothèque (DRA Inlex 3000).
Il/elle s'occupe aussi du site Web du SBPNB, de la bibliothèque de référence
virtuelle, de l'automatisation et de l'accès Internet.  Il/elle évalue et
recommande des améliorations technologiques pour appuyer l'orientation
stratégique du SBPNB, dirige 6 analystes du soutien technique et participe à
la planification de l'automatisation et de la TI. Il/elle s'occupe de la
formation du personnel concernant la TI, programme des applications
originales et voit à la gestion de projets spéciaux au besoin.  Il/elle
travaille aussi en étroite collaboration avec le service de TI du ministère
de l'Éducation afin d'offrir aux bibliothèques des services relatifs à la
TI.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : Un diplôme universitaire avec spécialisation en
sciences informatiques ou en génie et au moins deux (2) années d'expérience
pertinente en TI.  L'équivalent en éducation et en expérience comme un
diplôme de collège communautaire ou d'école technique allié à une vaste
expérience  peut être  considéré.   Il est  essentiel d'avoir une bonne
connaissance des réseaux utilisant Windows NT. On considérera comme un atout
important la connaissance de Visual Basic, MS Access, Active Server Pages
(ASP), SQL, HTML ainsi que des systèmes de gestion et d'automatisation des
bibliothèques. La personne choisie aura de fortes aptitudes en leadership,
en gestion et en communication.  Elle sera douée dans les domaines
techniques et la supervision du personnel.  La connaissance de l'anglais et
du français à l'oral et à l'écrit est essentielle. Les candidats et les
candidates doivent indiquer dans leur demande comment ils/elles ont acquis
les aptitudes et les compétences nécessaires pour ce poste.

à la formation et à l'expérience pourraient être révisées à la hausse.
