>Fellowship Program, Institute for Ethics at the AMA
>Deadline: January 31, 2001
>
>The Institute for Ethics at the American Medical Association seeks candidates
for its Fellowship & Visiting Scholars Program for the 2001-2002 academic
year.
Two to four qualified individuals will be given opportunities to start or
advance their scholarly pursuits in bioethics by performing academic research
and writing within the Institute for Ethics and its extensive research
programs.
>The Institute for Ethics is an independent research organization, housed
within Ethics Standards at the AMA, which includes the Ethics Resource Center
and the Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs. The fellowship program offers
unique opportunities at the nation's largest medical professional association
to be involved in ongoing research projects, ethics policy meetings, and
distance learning platforms. Previous fellows are now attending medical
school,
teaching ethics at medical school, or working in ethics centers.
>
>Applications for Fellowship positions are encouraged from both younger
scholars who plan to continue their studies in professional or graduate
school,
as well as post-doctoral level students. Fellows participate actively in the
Institute's programs and activities that are related to their studies,
including participation in weekly seminars, weekly case consultation
conferences, and biweekly journal club meetings. The Visiting Scholar
positions
are ideal for established scholars interested in spending 1 or 2 sabbatical
semesters at the Institute for Ethics. Visiting scholars and more senior
fellows have limited teaching responsibilities that are tailored to their
interests and backgrounds.
>
>Individuals selected will receive competitive salary and benefit packages. To
be considered for positions beginning September, 2001, please forward a letter
of interest, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and three letters of reference
to:
