LIBRARIAN - 1 (LB-1)
LIBRARY SERVICES - ATLANTIC HEALTH SCIENCES CORPORATION
HOURS OF WORK: Days
SALARY: As per Management pay scale
JOB PURPOSE: The Librarian reports to the Director of Organizational
Learning, and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Library
Services and supervision of Library Assistants, in support of and
adherence to the mission, goals, policies and procedures of Organizational
Learning, and the Corporation and to accepted library standards and
relevant legislation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MLS or MLIS Degrees with special training or experience in health
sciences librarianship
- Experience and indepth knowledge of health libraries operations,
technical services and bibliographic instruction
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- An ability to coach, supervise and manage Library Services teams
- An ability to deal effectively with library users in a customer-focused
manner
- Excellent reference and information retrieval skills, preferably in the
health sciences field with knowledge of MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane
databases
- Initiative, good judgment and good decision making and supervisory
skills
- Ability to work independently, manage time appropriately and set
priorities
- Knowledge of the application of the electronic/computer environment to
library and information services
- Knowledge of evidence-based medicine culture and methods and resources,
and related methods of critical analysis of literature
- Knowledge of the social, economic and legal issues effecting the
Canadian health care system
- Good work record and attendance record
- High regard for confidentiality
- Fluency in spoken French/English preferred
- Bilingual: Preferred
