OPEN

The New Brunswick Public Library Service invites applications for the
position of Technical Services Librarian to
act as the Head of Cataloguing Services at our provincial office in
Fredericton.

DUTIES:  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Head of Cataloguing
Services is part of the provincial office
management team.  He or she participates in strategic planning, the
implementation of the operational plan and
the budgeting process.  He/she is responsible for the management of the
provincial union catalogue according to
established national and international standards.  He/she directs
cataloguing activities and manages the control of
bibliographic and authority records for the automated library system (DRA
Inlex 3000); develops policies and procedures
for cataloguing; directs and supervises a team of six permanent employees
doing copy and original cataloguing in English
and French; assures quality control; keeps up-to-date on new developments
and products; is involved in the recruitment,
training and evaluation of staff; manages special projects; and will assist
in planning the migration to a new automated
system (TAOS).  Working with regional technical services staff, he/she
recommends, establishes and implements
provincial guidelines, standards and procedures.  This position may require
travel within the province.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess a Masters degree from
an American Library Association accredited library and/or information
science program and at least two (2) years cataloguing experience which
includes increasing levels of responsibility in management and supervision.
The candidate must have excellent management, leadership, supervisory,
communication, and interpersonal skills.  He/she must also be well organized
and possess highly-developed skills for resolving problems, analysis, and
teamwork.  He/she must have an excellent  working  knowledge of  cataloguing
in an automated environment, AACR2, LC and Laval subject headings, Dewey
Decimal Classification, LC rule interpretations and principles of authority
control.  Written and spoken competence in English and French is essential.
He/she must also possess a valid driver's license.

acquired the qualifications and skills required for this position.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du N.-B. est à la recherche d'un(e)
bibliothécaire des services techniques qui agira à titre de Chef du service
de catalogage du bureau provincial à Fredericton.
FONCTIONS :  Relevant de la directrice générale, le ou la Chef du service de
catalogage fait partie de l'équipe de gestion du bureau provincial. Il ou
elle participe aux activités de planification stratégique, de mise en oeuvre
du plan opérationnel et de budgétisation. Il/elle est responsable de la
gestion du catalogue collectif provincial d'après les normes nationales et
internationales établies. Il/elle dirige les activités de catalogage et
assume la gestion du contrôle des notices bibliographiques et d'autorité du
système automatisé DRA Inlex 3000; élabore des politiques et procédures de
catalogage; dirige et supervise une équipe de six employé(e)s permanent(e)s
affecté(e)s au catalogage dérivé et original en anglais et en français;
assure le contrôle de la qualité; demeure à l'affût des développements et
des nouveaux produits; est impliqué dans le recrutement, la formation et
l'évaluation de son personnel; gère des projets spéciaux; et aide à
planifier la migration des données vers un nouveau système automatisé
(TAOS). Travaillant avec les services techniques régionaux, il/elle
recommande, établit et met en oeuvre l'application de lignes directrices, de
normes et de procédures provinciales. Ce poste peut nécessiter des
déplacements dans la province.
CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : La personne recherchée doit détenir une maîtrise
d'un programme de bibliothéconomie et/ou sciences de l'information accrédité
par « American Library Association » et au moins deux (2) années
d'expérience en catalogage comportant des responsabilités croissantes en
gestion et en supervision. Elle doit posséder d'excellentes habiletés en
gestion, en leadership, en supervision, en communication et en relations
interpersonnelles. Elle doit également posséder un  excellent sens de
l'organisation, ainsi  que des  aptitudes marquées  pour la résolution de
problèmes, l'analyse et le travail d'équipe.  Elle doit avoir une excellente
connaissance pratique des techniques de catalogage dans un environnement
automatisé, de AACR2, des vedettes-matière Laval et LC, de la classification
Dewey, de l'interprétation des règles de LC et des principes de notice
d'autorité.  La connaissance du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à
l'écrit, est essentielle. Elle doit aussi posséder un permis de conduire
valide.
