What does the Eye See? Information Seeking Experiences of Distance Students with
Learning Disabilities

Abstract
Nancy?s presentation will provide a general overview of information seeking
theory/behaviour and describe a user-centred approach to information seeking.
Of particular interest and focus is the significance of information seeking
behaviour as it might apply to students with learning differences and potential
barriers encountered in searching and accessing information in the distance
environment.
Speaker Information
Nancy E. Black, Manager, Access and Information Services with University of
Northern British Columbia (UNBC), graduated from Dalhousie with her MLS in 1981
and has worked in libraries in various capacities throughout Canada since that
time. For the past 12 years she has provided library services for distance
students at the UNBC and has recently completed a year-long appointment as the
Acting University Librarian. Nancy began doctoral studies at the School of
Library, Archival and Information Studies at UBC in 2005 and is currently
recruiting participants for her study: "Information Seeking Experiences of the
Post-Secondary Distance Student with Learning Disabilities".
This lecture is open to the public at "no charge." All are Welcome.
