"The New Library of Alexandria and How I Became the Canadian
Representative"

The new Bibliotheca Alexandrina replaces the famous ancient library of
Alexandria. This lecture outlines the importance of the city of Alexandria
in Greek history and the importance of the Library of Alexandria in
Western history. Dr. Brown will then recount his adventures at the
opening of the new library in April 2002 and how he became the Canadian
representative of the "Friends of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina." Further

Dr. Brown received his BSc in Psychology from the University of Victoria
and his MA and PhD from Dalhousie University. After a two year
post-doctoral fellowship in the Zoology Department at Oxford University,
he returned to Dalhousie in 1978. He has served as the Chairman of the
Psychology Department (1989-96), Director of the Neuroscience Institute
(1997-2000) and Assistant Dean of Science (2002) and is currently the
Chairman of the Psychology Department. He has authored over 100
publications, and has given lectures at universities around the world in
his teaching and research area of. biological psychology. His lecture on
the Alexandrian Library represents a "new" area of interest.
