Library Assistant I - II
One Part-Time Position
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
Under the supervision of the Manager of Collections, the Library Assistant I - II is responsible for a wide range of duties associated with the daily operation and maintenance of the museum library. The Library Assistant assists with the provision of information service to museum staff and to the public, and is solely responsible for technical services for the library.
This is a part-time position with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2001. Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Qualifications:
Grade 12, and completion of a two-year Library Technician program from a community college. Two years related experience (or an acceptable equivalent) and a university undergraduate degree in history or the social sciences are highly desirable. Knowledge of the cultural history of Nova Scotia an asset. She/he must have experience with library technical services including acquisitions, cataloguing and processing of materials, maintenance of library databases, interlibrary loan service (including electronic requesting), and practical knowledge of electronic sources of copy cataloguing including Z39.50 gateways and services such as Amicus. Demonstrated knowledge of DB/Text Works is required as well as a high degree of general computer literacy, including familiarity with Windows 98, WordPerfect for Windows, Internet applications and the Web. The incumbent will have demonstrated resourcefulness and self-management in previous positions, and must have above average interpersonal and communications skills.
