INFORMATION AND ELECTRONIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN

Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the full-time position of Information and Electronic Services Librarian This position is located in the Reference Services Department of the Spring Garden Road Memorial Public Library, 5381 Spring Garden Road, Halifax, N.S.
The Information and Electronic Services Librarian plays a key support role to the Reference Services Manager and is actively involved in service development related to technology. The successful candidate will be:

▸ a strong communicator with the demonstrated ability to build relationships with community partners

Major Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Reference Services Manager, this position carries out professional duties associated with information services, electronic resources, collection development and programming to ensure the highest quality service delivery to the public:
▸ Monitors trends and seeks innovative ways to integrate technologies into service delivery
▸ Identifies potential digitization projects and co-ordinates their implementation
▸ Develops website content and contributes to website innovation and development
▸ Develops and maintains content for electronic resources
▸ Develops and facilitates self-directed IT skills for the public
▸ Liaises with vendors, community partners and the Nova Scotia Provincial Library regarding electronic resources
▸ Pursues partnerships to achieve organizational goals
▸ Participates in the planning and implementation of system-wide training for Information Services staff
▸ Provides information services to the public
▸ Participates in collection development (print and electronic resources)
▸ Assists Reference Services Manager in reviewing the operation of the Department to ensure relevance to user needs
▸ Assists Reference Services Manager in developing departmental priorities
▸ In cooperation with the Reference Services Manager selects, trains and evaluates staff as appropriate
▸ Acts in the absence of the Reference Services Manager
▸ Participates in Regional Committees
▸ Operates within designated budgets
▸ Assists with development and implementation of marketing plans (e.g. writes Guide copy, speaks to groups, liaises with media and community groups)
Application Requirements:
● MLIS degree from an accredited library school plus one year library experience including supervisory experience. (Please state whether the application requirement is met in your resume and/or cover letter.)

Technological Competence - Broad and in-depth knowledge of current and emerging technology and information resources required.

Interpersonal/Group Skills - Must have ability to work well with library staff, library users, community groups and organizations.
Leadership - Sets and models high performance standards. Must have the ability to motivate staff through various supervisory techniques and lead others through change.
Organizational Understanding and Global Thinking - Demonstrates an understanding of the purpose of library services and works to achieve results across disciplines, branches/departments and functions.
Accountability/Dependability - Accepts responsibility for actions and results.
Planning and Organizational Skills - Must have demonstrated ability to effectively plan and organize work.
Resource Management - Ability to manage resources consistent with organizational and department objectives.
Service Attitude - Must have an understanding of what is required to provide the highest quality service. Thrives in an environment of interaction with a wide range of users.

This is a unionized position.
Hours of Work: 70 hours biweekly (Includes daytime, evenings & weekends)
Bi-Weekly Salary: $1,597.66 - $1,833.38 (5 steps), Based on annual salary: $41,698.84 - $47,851.33
