LIBRARY EVENING/WEEKEND CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR
(Part-time Staff Association Position)
HOURS: 20 hours per week during the evening and/or weekend. These hours are under
review and subject to change.
Current Hours for Academic Term (September - April)
Saturdays: 9a.m.-6:00p.m. and Monday & Wednesday 4:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Current Hours for Summer Session (May - August)
Alternate Sundays 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
The Library is seeking a reliable, flexible, knowledgeable, motivated, organized, and mature person to work evenings
and/or weekends in a service, training and supervisory role. This is an ideal position for someone wishing to work
part-time hours only. Flexibility in schedule is essential in this position. The two evening/weekend circulation
supervisory incumbents are expected to accommodate shifts for one another during vacation and occasional time-off.
This permanent position includes benefits and three-weeks (pro-rated) paid vacation.
DUTIES:
The primary responsibilities of this position include providing circulation and reference services to library users,
carrying out all functions of the Novanet circulation module including automated and manual control of regular and
reserve loans, processing circulation notices, handling financial transactions, assigning study carrels, care and
control of library audio-visual equipment, stack maintenance, developing automated files for all library users, tracking
all held, recalled or missing items. The incumbent trains and supervises student assistants and advises them on an
on-going basis, and is also responsible for problem resolution or referral, Library opening and closing procedures,
maintenance of Library security, and providing access to Library and computing resources (i.e. CD-ROM, printing,
special collections). The incumbent reports to the Coordinator of Public Services, and works under the day to day
supervision of the Circulation Supervisor. The Evening/Weekend Circulation Supervisor may be assigned other
duties (library tours, assisting in preparing instructional material and organizing displays etc.) as required.
QUALIFICATION:
This position requires at least one year previous work experience in a library. Supervisory and training experience is
required. Preference will be given to candidates who have an undergraduate degree in the humanities or social
sciences, and/or a Library Technician diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous
library reference experience would be useful. Candidates must be able to exercise good judgement, organize work, and
work conscientiously without supervision. The incumbent must have excellent communication skills and adaptability
to constant change in activity. Experience with an automated Library system, WordPerfect and Internet searching are
required, as are good keyboarding skills.
CLASSIFICATION: LEVEL 6
SALARY: $25,419 (Pro-rated to )
