DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
New Brunswick Public Library Service - Provincial Office, Fredericton

OPEN

New Brunswick Public Library Service (NBPLS) is searching for a creative and
dynamic individual with demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of public
libraries to serve as Public Services Librarian at the Provincial Office in
Fredericton.

DUTIES: The NBPLS Provincial Office is responsible for the overall
management of the public library system in New Brunswick. Reporting to the
Assistant Director of New Brunswick Public Library Service and working in
close cooperation with staff throughout the organization, the Public
Services Librarian plays a key role in the development, coordination and
evaluation of provincial scale programs and services.

Duties include: managing the operation and evaluation of selected provincial
programs and services; developing new programs and services; taking part in
strategic planning; participating in various provincial committees and
overseeing their work as required; researching electronic reference tools,
negotiating licences for their use and planning their implementation;
managing the development of the professional collection at the provincial
office including its budget; overseeing the provision of Inter-library loans
at the provincial level and providing specialized support to Inter-library
loan personnel in the library regions; participating in identifying and
meeting training needs for the library system; promoting the public library
system by engaging in public and media relations; managing the development
of selected provincial promotional materials such as pamphlets and posters;
developing relationships with community groups and potential partners;
making presentations;    conducting    research    and   preparing reports;
managing  the publication of the annual statistics report; overseeing grant
applications and their management as required; supervising casual and
project employees as needed and assuming other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  We are searching for a team leader with a demonstrated
sense of organization coupled with problem solving and analytical skills.  A
masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited
school is necessary.  At least two (2) years of professional experience is
required.  An equivalent combination of training and experience may be
considered.  Written and spoken competence in English and French is
essential.

The successful candidate will possess a strong interpersonal and
communication skills.  He or she must also have a strong knowledge of
library automation software, reference service, the Internet and electronic
reference tools, as well as library programming.  This position involves
travel, and a valid driver's license is required.

Le Service des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick est à la
recherche d'un ou d'une  bibliothécaire professionnel(le) dynamique et
enthousiaste envers la mission des bibliothèques publiques pour combler le
poste de bibliothécaire des services publics au bureau provincial du Service
des bibliothèques du Nouveau-Brunswick à Fredericton.

FONCTIONS : Le Bureau provincial du SBPNB est responsable de la gestion du
réseau des bibliothèques publiques du Nouveau-Brunswick. Relevant de la
Directrice adjointe du Service des bibliothèques publiques du
Nouveau-Brunswick et travaillant en étroite collaboration avec le personnel
de l'ensemble de l'organisation, le/la Bibliothécaire des services publics
joue un rôle clé dans le développement, la coordination et l'évaluation de
programmes et de services à l'échelle provinciale.

Les responsabilités consistent entre autres à gérer et évaluer un ensemble
de programmes et services provinciaux; développer de nouveaux programmes et
services; prendre part à la planification stratégique; participer à des
comités provinciaux et superviser leur travail tel que requis; évaluer des
outils de référence électroniques, négocier les licences d'utilisation et
planifier leur mise en place; gérer la collection professionnelle du Bureau
provincial y compris le budget alloué; superviser le service de prêts entre
bibliothèques à l'échelle provinciale et fournir le soutien requis au
personnel assurant les prêts entre bibliothèques dans les régions de
bibliothèques; participer à la détermination des besoins de formation et à
la prestation d'activités de formation pour le réseau des bibliothèques;
promouvoir le réseau des bibliothèques publiques en menant des activités de
relations publiques et médiatiques; gérer la préparation de certains
documents promotionnels provinciaux tels que des  dépliants et des affiches;
établir des relations avec les groupes communautaires et les partenaires
potentiels; faire des présentations; mener des recherches et rédiger des
rapports; assurer la publication du rapport des statistiques annuelles;
coordonner la présentation et la gestion de demandes de subventions selon
les besoins; et accomplir les autres tâches qui lui sont confiées.

CONDITIONS DE CANDIDATURE : La personne recherchée fait preuve de leadership
et possède un excellent sens de l'organisation, de même que des aptitudes
pour la résolution de problèmes et l'analyse. Elle possède une maîtrise en
bibliothéconomie et en sciences de l'information d'une école accréditée par
l'ALA ainsi qu'au moins deux (2) années d'expérience professionnelle.
L'équivalent en formation et en expérience pourrait être considéré.  La
connaissance du français et de l'anglais, à l'oral et à l'écrit, est
essentielle.

La personne choisie possède d'excellentes aptitudes pour les relations
interpersonnelles et la communication. Elle doit également avoir une très
bonne connaissance des logiciels utilisés par les bibliothèques, des
services de référence, des outils Internet et électroniques de référence
ainsi que de la programmation d'activités d'animation. Ce poste nécessite
des déplacements, et un permis de conduire valide est requis.
